Robert MITCHELL and Mary Anne MCKIE




Robert MITCHELL was born circa 1795 in Ireland (inf from census records). Research of census (1841) records held by Church of LDS shows that both Robert and Mary may have emigrated from Ireland. Also, there are some variations in the details of their children.
 

Robert immigrated from Girvan, near Maybole in Ayrshire, Scotland, to  Melbourne, Australia in July 1855 with his family, including his married son, James (and his pregnant wife, Mary) per "White Star".
The family arrived from Melbourne to Tasmania per 'City of Hobart'. 
Robert and James were sponsored by Mr. Francis Cotton of Kelvedon.


Robert married Mary Anne McKIE, on 30 Jan 1825 in Maybole Parish, Ayrshire. Born circa 1807 in Ireland.  Mary died 26 Apr 1879 in Port Sorell, Tasmania, Australia. Buried in New Ground, Tasmania.

They had the following children:

James Mitchell: Born 1832 married Mary Jane Boyce, daughter of James Boyce  & Mary Black, 15 Aug 1854 in Girvan, Ayrshire, Scotland. Born 6 Apr 1826 in Girvan, Ayrshire, Scotland. Baptism 14 May 1826 in Girvan, Ayrshire, Scotland. Died 4 Jan 1898 in Parattah, Tasmania. Buried Jan 1898 in Oatlands, Tasmania, Australia. Occupation Weaver before marriage in Scotland. Residence Parattah, Tasmania.

 Robert Mitchell ; Born 1833 in Ayrshire, Scotland. He married Eliza Turnbull - daughter of William Turnbull and Mary Richardson - 10 Apr 1879 in Port Sorell, Tasmania, Australia. Born 1853 in Tasmania. Died 25 May 1918. 

William Mitchell - Born 1835 in Ayrshire, Scotland. William was at the Crimean War and may have stayed in Scotland. Josiah Hudson Mitchell 

Margaret Mitchell; Born 1845 in Ayrshire, Scotland. Died 8 Jul 1901 in Mersey, Tasmania. Buried Jul 1901 in New Ground/Moriarty, Tasmania, Australia. She married Archibald Wilson Cherry, 11 Aug 1875 in Port Sorell, Tasmania, Australia. Born 1847. Died 18 Jul 1907 in Mersey, Tasmania. Buried Jul 1907 in New Ground/Moriarty, Tasmania, Australia.  

Alexander Hawthorne Mitchell: Born 1848  in Ayrshire, Scotland.  Married Isabella Turnbull in private home of William Turnbull, New Ground (home named "Glen Burnie") in presence of William Turnbull Jnr and Annie Mitchell.  Certificate shows Alexander's age to be 29 and Isabella's age 23. Married in rites of Wesleyan Methodist Church.

Ann Mitchell Born 1846 in Ayrshire, Scotland. Died 1 Jun 1920 in New Ground. Buried Jun 1920 in New Ground, Tasmania. 

Mary Mitchell: Born 1849  in Ayrshire, Scotland. Married Robert Bauld. Died 1907 in Latrobe, Tasmania.
